Inside Darley September 2014

Hi I’m Paul Darley. Thanks for tuning into our September issue of Inside Darley.

September…your kids are probably back to school. Here at Darley we are back from school or back to school as well. In fact, our team just got back from China. We had three engineers including Wayne Hable, Troy Carothers and Tim Yu who went over to conduct training in China for 23 different fire truck builders, and while there they trained 37 students.  It was a really great exercise. It took a great partnership between Darley China and Darley that collectively really helped educate our customers over there.  At Darley we always say “An educated customer is our best customer.” With that in mind, we would like to also encourage you to sign up for one of our upcoming pump schools. We hold those the first full week of October and the first full week of May each year.  We’ve attached an application for our October school. It’s just about full but we can get you on the waiting list or move you forward to our May school. Hopefully you can put that onto your calendar. We really encourage our service centers and OEMs to try to send someone to attend those at least every five years to keep you up to date on the latest technology. We would also like to encourage you, if you can’t wait until May, stop by and visit us at one of our plants. Our plants in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin are completely state-of-the-art. We invite you at any time to come there. You can also come by our plants in Iowa or our headquarters here in Itasca, IL, which is a suburb of Chicago. We are only about 10 minutes from O’Hare Airport. If you’re traveling internationally, feel free to drop by our offices in Australia, New Zealand, in Lagos, Nigeria and also in Europe. We’d encourage you to stop by and see us there.

One place we could probably all use education is in the world of email. We probably had no formal education on what’s the proper etiquette. The second article we’ve attached for you is ‘101 Email Etiquette Tips.’ If there’s someone in your office who perhaps isn’t always following the proper etiquette, maybe you want to share that with them or your entire office. There’s some good things there. It also talks to Social Media and communication with Social Media and other means as well. Incidentally this week, I did take my ALS ice bucket challenge and I posted that on Facebook and there’s a trailer at the end of this if you’re interested.

The last attachment for you is just incredible. I actually shared it with our listeners about 5 to 7 years ago. In light of our school theme here, I thought I would share it again. It’s a collection of the best takeaways from Northwestern’s MBA Program. A collection of students put it together about 10 years ago but it’s still very pertinent so you might want to just file that away in your Darley file folder if you’re ever looking for advice on what to do with marketing issues, finance issues, accounting issues. There are really some great takeaways here. Strategies, you name it.

Thanks for tuning into this issue of Inside Darley. If there’s anything we can be doing to support you, we hope you’ll reach out to us.
