Hi, I’m Paul Darley, and thanks for tuning into our October issue of Inside Darley. We’re really excited to attach our Fall/Winter issue of The Darley Times. It’s just filled with all sorts of industry news and things going on at Darley.
You know, my father always said, “You never see a fish hanging on a wall with its mouth closed.” Here at Darley we try not to be too boastful, but we really did have to boast on behalf of our great Team Darley members on page one, where because of their hard work and because of the hard work of those who we serve, we were recognized by Inc. Magazine as one of the 5,000 fastest growing companies in America. We’ve done that now 10 of the last 11 years. We were also one of the fastest growing companies here in Chicago. Ernst and Young recognized us for an entrepreneurial spirit. All of that again, is dedicated to our great Team Darley members and in the first responders across all the communities that we serve.
On page two, I talk about velocity. Velocity is rate of change and the direction of change and how those come together. And I think right now, the rate of change in business and in any organization is really critical. As we move forward, we’re making sure that we’re concentrated on this velocity, being very cognizant of the amount of change, but more importantly, the direction that we’re headed.
We’ve got some information on page three on all sorts of new products that we’ve introduced. Page four has a little bit of a blurb on each one of our divisions. And on page five, you’ll see information on our portable pumps and skid units. We’ve just partnered up with Daytona International Speedway, and we’re now the official fire pump for them. Some interesting things to check out.
One of the things you won’t read in this issue, but you’ll read it in our second attachment is just yesterday, September 30th, we closed on the sale of our Fireboy division to United Safety. United Safety, if you’re in the fire service, you probably know them best for their Valor Seats. Joe Mirabile is the CEO of that company, and they’ve actually been a customer of Fireboy through their Fogmaker product line for a long time. They approached us. We weren’t really looking to sell it, but it really turned out to be a great marriage. We know that they’ve got access to international markets and some other markets that we really weren’t able to get into with Fireboy. More importantly, we know that they’re going to take care of our great employees out there.
A large part of our business these days is the Department of Defense. And if you’re part of the Army and you’re going to be at the AUSA show in Washington, D.C., October 11th through the 13th, we hope you’ll come by and visit us. We’re going to be in booth #3731. We’ve got a big team going out there.
Our third attachment is a report put out by Bloomberg. It’s the Federal Industry Leaders Report. If you could imagine, we are the 116th largest defense contractor here in America, and we are the fifth largest here in Illinois, just behind Boeing, Argonne Labs, CDW and Fermilab. And we’ve added 26 new employees to our defense team just since the start of the year.
As we talked about in the September issue, a lot of folks are continuing to see supply chain issues as we are with engines on our portable pumps and other things. But our last attachment here is a report that was just recently released by the House Armed Services Committee that talks about The Defense Critical Supply Chain Task Force, their report and how that’s going to impact our government and different suppliers.
