Hi I’m Paul Darley, thanks for coming to watch the first Inside Darley of 2018.
It is cold here, -10 degrees Fahrenheit, and it doesn’t look like it will be getting warmer any time soon. Despite the cold we have some good news for U.S fire departments; congress reauthorized AFG Fire Act Grants, SAFER and USFA and are just waiting to be signed by President Trump. This reauthorization will extend out to 2023 which is really great news.
Our first attachment is AFG Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO). The AFG NOFO contains the key program updates and application requirements for eligible applicants. If you are going to be applying for a grant I encourage you to give the AFG NOFO a quick look.
Our second attachment is an article about Jim Collins and his trip to learn about leadership at West point. Jim Collins is the author of Built to Last and Good to Great, he is well known for his research into what makes a company tick. His trip to West point changed the way he viewed leadership and I think everyone can gain something from this article.
The third and final attachment is the article Four Strategies for Cultivating Leaders. The writer interviews Brigadier General Bernie Banks about ways companies can improve the number of leaders they have and the best ways to train those potential leaders.
Another resource on leadership is a video by Simon Sinek called Why Leaders Eat Last. In the video Simon talks about military leaders and their style of leading, having tangible goals, and the psychology of leadership. I think it’s a fascinating video and worth a watch.
We had our defense advisory board in December. One of our additions to the board is former Adjutant General of Colorado H. Michael Edwards. We are excited to have his experience and guidance on our board.
