Inside Darley August 2019

Hi, I’m Paul Darley, thanks for coming to watch the August issue of Inside Darley.

I hope you’ve had fun this summer and took some time off to spend with your family.

Our business has been growing incredibly fast in the past few years. We had 70% growth in 2018 and 50% in the first half of 2019. Most of our growth is coming from our Darley Defense Division. Knowing who to hire has become a subject of focus for us. Our first attachment is “Guidelines on Interview and Employment Questions.” The article speaks to the questions’ employers should be asking in interviews and in their job postings.

I took some time to catch up on podcasts during my time off. I recommend Ditch Digger CEOhosted by Gary Rabine, I did an interview with him that’s worth a listen. One of Darley’s podcasts Smart Firefighting with Kevin Sofen interview innovators in the public safety industry. Kevin has pulled some insightful conversations from his interviewees. Mike Tax recently joined Darley Defense and recommended the Learning Leader podcast with Ryan Hawk. Ryan interviews guests, who include Jim Collins, General Stanley McChrystal, Marcus Buckingham, and Patrick Lencioi. The Learning Leader podcast has takeaway notes from each podcast to help you get the most out of each listen.

Larry Gies is the founder and CEO of Madison Industries, he has bought public safety companies including Task Force Tips, Amkus, and Reelcraft. He has a build and hold investment strategy, which means he sees these companies as long term investments. Larry has been involved in putting together great speakers and topics including Francis Frie on building and rebuilding trust, the Science of Flow, and Hiring Right.

Our second attachment has to do with the small but powerful workforce that is generation X. “Generation X: Why the Smallest Workforce Generation May Be the Most Powerful” is an article that talks about generation x and why companies shouldn’t ignore this generation for employment.
The Fire-Rescue International Conference is this week, and Darley will have plenty of boots on the ground. We will be in booth 2609. The conference has a lot of activities to get excited about, Caleb Holt of TEEX will be hosting the IAFC Tech Council. Companies will give three-minute pitches about their innovative products and services; the winners will be featured in a podcast on SmartFirefighting. Thursday the Smart Firefighting community will be a The Cooking School at Irwin Street, attendees can register for the event here.

Thanks for tuning in to this issue of Inside Darley, if there is anything, we can be doing to assist you we hope you reach out to us.
