Darley has been a leader in fire apparatus manufacturing for more than a century. Founded in Chicago in 1908 by William S. Darley as a municipal supply company, the business shifted its focus to fire apparatus manufacturing in 1926. W.S. had a vision of establishing the world’s first fire apparatus on a commercial chassis, the Model T Ford. After forging a relationship with Henry Ford, he developed Darley’s first fire apparatus which sold for just $690 compared to an average price of $7,500.
William Stuart’s vision of providing economic solutions to the global fire and emergency services industry was later championed by his oldest son, Bill Darley, who expanded the company’s reach into global markets. Later, Peter and Jeff Darley further strengthened international partnerships and grew fire apparatus sales in China and Africa.
“We set our sights on providing an industry solution that meets small-town fire department budgets with capabilities necessary to serve big-city needs,” said Kyle Darley.
Peter Darley commented, “As we begin our second century of apparatus manufacturing, our focus remains unchanged: listening to customers, delivering practical innovation, and providing dependable solutions that help first responders protect their communities.”
Looking ahead, Peter and Kyle Darley stressed that long-term success depends on staying attuned to the market, listening to customers, and maintaining a strong focus on quality, service, and lasting partnerships.
