The AutoCAFS shall utilize automatic airflow switch controls to inject the proper volume of compressed air into the foam discharges. A panel mounted toggle switch control shall automatically regulate the precise amount of compressed air independently to each compressed air foam system discharge of 2" plumbing or less. The airflow amount shall be factory preset to the proper level. Each discharge shall include a manually adjustable valve mounted inside the pump compartment for fine-tuning when desired. The automatic control shall consist of a weatherproof toggle switch, which electrically activates an airflow valve sized according to the SCFM requirement of the discharge. Each automatic airflow injection switch mounted on the panel shall be installed using a red protective switch cover. Each CAFS air injection switch shall be appropriately labeled.
All 2-1/2" CAFS discharges and/or deck gun CAFS discharges, if provided, shall utilize a manual airflow control installed on the operators’ panel. Due to the higher levels of airflow commonly used with a large diameter discharge and the energy exhibited by the velocity of compressed air, it is suggested to introduce the airflow at a slower, more controlled rate using a manual 1/4 turn panel-mounted control.
Darley AutoCAFS Air Injection Option Cab Mounted Remote Control Operation
The Darley AutoCAFS shall utilize cab mounted automatic Compressed Air Foam System controls to inject the proper volume of foam solution as well as compressed air into the foam discharges chosen. Common outlets include bumper or roof mounted remote controlled turrets.
A panel mounted three-position toggle switch control shall automatically regulate the precise amount of water mixed with foam concentrate and compressed air. With the Darley PTO driven fire pump, air compressor, and foam system engaged, a preset speed control button is activated to increase the RPM of the engine to the proper speed.
The first position of the switch shall provide plain water flow at near full volume of the pump if desired. The second position of the switch shall reduce the foam solution flow and add the correct ratio of compressed air to provide a wet foam solution for direct, high-intensity, fire attack. The third position on the switch reduces the foam solution flow further and increase the compressed air ratio to now provide a dryer foam intended more for exposure protection and the smothering of less intense fires. The second and third switch positions provide for reduced water consumption while achieving faster knockdown than with conventional water streams.
